Relentless Ridgeway

Bristol based Relentless Suzuki rider Matt Ridgeway nearly came away with a top three podium finish at round one of the two stroke British Motocross championship in Kent.

Matt who rides a 125cc machine put in great performance in the blistering heat of Canada Heights. In race won Matt didn't get a great start but managed to come through the pack to finish fourth. Race two was slightly different with Matt finishing the race strongly to cross the chequered flag in second.

It was all down to the final race of the day, Matt was heading for a comfortable second place overall when disaster struck at the start, Matt took the holeshot and was first into the corner but his front wheel dug deep into the loose dirt and the teenager went down, at this point Matt was trying to get back to his feet but within seconds he was run over by three or four other bikes which put him dead-last.

32 points off the leader

Battling through the pack he managed to get back to 16th place and finish the weekend in 6th overal, 32 points off the leader, with another nine rounds to go.

Other Bristol riders who qualified for the championship were the Smith brothers from Kingswood. Brett who races in the Junior C class came home with a second overall finish and older brother Drew finished 7th in the expert A 250cc class.

After finishing 6th overall Matt told bristolsport.net ...

"I'm gutted about the final race as my races have got stronger throughout the day and I'm sure I could have challenged for a win. We still have nine rounds to go and there are plenty of points to gain from them".

The next round of the championship is at Mildenhall in Norfolk on the Sunday 6th May.
