COMBINATION CUP FINAL

Avonmouth Old Boys couldn't contend with the superior back play of the now Combination Cup Champions of 2007 St Mary's Old Boys, as the Winterbourne based club came out 34 to 5 winners.

With a bumper local crowd gathered at the Memorial Stadium for the final, St Mary's succeeded in controlling the young Avonmouth team with excellent set moves which broke down the solid defence of the "Mouth".

Mary's number 10 Danie Nothnagel had a superb game at fly-half and scored two well deserved tries, Mary's other try scorers were Captain Chris Randell, Matt Leek, James Cooke and Matt Stone.

Avonmouth did manage to cross the St Mary's line half way through the first period, with the forwards playing a huge part by setting up a driving maul and young prop Grant Britton crashing over to the delight of the Avonmouth supporters. Avonmouth who play their rugby two leagues below St Mary's played very well for such a young team but full credit to St Mary's who played a very controlled and intelligent game.
