Mugging reported at the Mem ... but no action taken ... Horfield wasn't actually the scene of a crime on Sunday afternoon unless, of course, you're a member of the Newcastle Falcons management who were convinced that Bristol Rugby got away with daylight robbery. A late penalty try, awarded by referee Andrew Small, was the incident in question with Jason Strange's conversion clinching the game for the home team and maintaining Bristol's unbeaten home record in the Guinness Premiership this season. Newcastle could feel understandably aggrieved as they had led since the 13th minute and outscored Bristol by two tries to one. However, they appeared to go into their shell with the game all but won and Bristol's wily old pack took charge of the final quarter. It was a far cry from the first when Bristol's gameplan was ripped apart by the loss of two of their backline through injury, and the Newcastle backs enjoyed the inevitable breakdowns in communication that making replacements bring about. Bristol were further hit by the losses of Alfie To'oala and David Hill. It really did look as though it wasn't going to be Bristol's day. However, Jason Strange's boot kept Bristol just about in touch leading to the dramatic finale which edges Bristol closer to Heineken Cup qualification.
