MOUNTAIN BIKING

Whether riding specially equipped or hybrid road bikes, Mountain Biking is the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, and often over long periods of time.

In the main, the sport comprises of four quite different disciplines: cross country, downhill, freeride, and trials riding. Each require differing levels of skills, equipment, fitness and self motivation .... and day by day, week by week, each are becoming more and more popular across the globe.

a bit of history ...

The sport is generally acknowledged as having been conceived in the foothills of California during the early '50s. By 1976 organised races were taking place throughout the region and attracting riders from around the world. The media soon cottoned on to this cool, fringe, exciting spectacle and by 1990, a truly professional sport had emerged. A World Championship competition soon followed and in 1996, the ultimate recognition of any sport, the granting of Olympic status.
