Rugby fan
Stuart Tinner struck it lucky at Wembley last evening winning a
half time 'crossbar challenge' worth £250,000 at the Saracens v
South Africa friendly.
In front of
47,000 spectators Stuart, a Job Centre worker living with his parents,
hit the bar with the first kick of the competition ... barefoot
from 30 metres.
Speaking
shortly after being presented with his life changing cheque he remarked
"This is the second best day of my life - the best was when
I lost my virginity!"
The
game itself, equally as thrilling, saw Saracens run out 23-23 winners
after a clinical drop kick from Derick Hougaard found its mark with
six minutes left on the clock.

A
late surge from Bath's six-foot-seven winger Matt Banahan [above]
saved the day for England after a lacklustre afternoon of rugby
from Johnson's squad. Referring
to the fans reaction, after the game Johnson said
glumly .. "We
probably deserved it" ... "They had every right not to be happy."

Coach Martin
Johnson's line up to face Australia in the Investec Challenge international
at Twickenham on Saturday is to include Bath Rugby's Matt Banahan,
Dave Wilson and Duncan Bell.

Matt
Banahan [above center],
a giant of a man for a winger at 6'.7" and 18st, should add
a whole new dimension to England's backs and compliment well the
return of 'chip and run' hero Jonny Wilkinson to the squad.
Fly-half
Wilkinson, now playing for French side Toulon, will win his first
England cap for 18 months as one of three World Cup winners recalled
to the side to face the Wallabies.

NO REFUNDS
FOR SPECTATORS
Organisers
of last weekend's ill fated Weston Beach Race, cancelled following
a serious incident soon after the mass start, have announced that
there will be no refunds for spectators.
RHL
Activities have today stated that as they were unable to resart
the race on the day through lack of available medical and safety
cover, and have subsequenly been advised by North Somerset Council
that for similar reasons it cannot now be rescheduled for this weekend,
the cancellation is "outside of the event organiser's control"
and as such they are not obliged to refund spectators their money.
An announcement
relating to the riders entry fees will be made by RHL Activities
Limited shortly.

Altogether
19 riders were taken to hospital after the crash on the main straight,
less than a mile into the solo race last Sunday.
The most seriously
injured rider was 16 year old South Somerset Moto X Club member
Ty Killet. Midweek he was reported to be still in a critical condition.
Doubts have
now been raised as the future of the event with after organiser
Gareth Hockey was quoted as saying “I have no intention of running
the beach race in Weston again”

FILTON
COLLEGE PRIDE 6 - KENT SCHOOL 27
|
|
|
24OCT09
In their
own back yard the recently formed Filton College Pride American
Football squad got a taste of just how competitive the game can
be on Saturday as they squared up to visitors Kent School from Connecticut
USA.
Billed as an
exhibition match, the two teams, aged 19
and under, were brought together from either side of the Atlantic
by Texas-based Global Football, which provides an opportunity for
young amateur athletes from different countries to compete against
one another, while experiencing and learning first hand about each
other's cultures.

It
came as no surprise that the vastly more experienced Kent School
eventually ran out winners, but the final score of 27-6 earned
Filton Pride much admiration from Kent School coach Todd Marble
who told reporters .... "They competed, played hard and
didn't quit ... That is what you look for in a football team."
Filton
Pride head coach Ben Herod agreed that the gap in experience and
fundamentals "was evident but not overwhelming". See

try in the dying seconds of injury-time breaking Bath hearts and
handing Harlequins their first win of the season.

Bristol
City FC have taken a major step forward in their plans to build
a new £65m stadium on greenbelt land, after city council planners
agreed to a "minded to approve" decision after a five hour meeting.
The
club wants to move from Ashton Gate to a new 30,000-seater stadium.
Council planners have ordered a revision of the club's Ashton
Vale development which will see the removal of plans for housing
on the site.
The
club said this would leave a £5.5m shortfall but the "biggest
hurdle" to the development had been negotiated.
Updated
plans, which must take into account the imposed housing restrictions
and further transport proposals, will go back before the council
in six months.
The
new stadium will include a hotel, conference facilities and be
capable of expanding to seat 40,000.
The
development is opposed by some environmental groups who claim
endangered wildlife will be put under further pressure and transport
links would not be capable of coping with the increased traffic.

Rowntree
backs Doran-Jones
|

Guinness
Premiership rookie prop Paul Doran-Jones, currently with Gloucester
Rugby, has been named in the England squad to play Argentina on
Saturday.
England's
scrum coach Graham Rowntree is confident Doran-Jones has the
ability to make what would be a giant step from the early days
of a Premiership career into Test match rugby.
"The
other coaches didn't know what he looked like until Sunday night
but I have been watching Paul all season," said Rowntree at
today's training session at Bagshot .. Let's hope they kit him
out with some bigger shorts before the game though!

'NO
FOODSTORE ... NO STADIUM'
insists
BCFC Chairman Steve Lansdown
|

photo
(c) Gary Bray / UNiCOM
MP
Dawn Primarolo is backing plans for the development of a FIFA
World Cup quality football stadium in Bristol ... but appears
to be at odds with BCFC Chairman Steve Lansdown [above]
as to precisely what to do with the current Ashton Gate
ground.
Whilst
the Bristol South MP wants the existing land given over to low-cost
housing, Mr Lansdown, the financial saviour of Bristol City FC
over recent years and key player in the proposed new stadium development,
insists that entire project hinges on a major chain foodstore
being granted permission to acquire and use the site.
Either
way Bristol's Councillors are scheduled to make their decision
at a Council House meeting to be held on November 4th ... just
two days before the City must submit its bid to the FA to stage
2018 World Cup games in Bristol should FIFA award the tournament
to the UK.

PUMAS
CALL UP MARIO

Bristol
Rugby have announced that they will be without the services
of Argentinian Mariano Sambucetti [above]
for three weeks after Saturday's game against Plymouth, with
news that the Argentinean has been called into his national
squad for the Autumn Internationals.
With
eleven full caps already to his credit, Sambucetti could well
be selected by the Pumas to face England, Scotland and Wales
during the series.
