Bristol
to host UK School Games
Chancellor Gordon
Brown yesterday anounced that Bristol and Bath are amongst the cities
that have been chosen to host the prestigious UK School Games in
2008.
|
The
UK School Games is a multi-sport event for the nation’s most talented
school age athletes.
Launched last year, they will be held every year until 2012 and
are designed to replicate the feel of events like the Olympic
and Paralympic Games.

MSA
Stewards exclude rally winners over fuel violation.
Controversy
rocked the Tour of Epynt rally last weekend with six of the event's
finishers being later excluded for use of illegal fuel.
Spot checks
undertaken by the MSA, the sport's governing body, revealed
|
that a number of teams, including overall winner Melvyn Evans
and third placed Steve Hendy were in breach of regulations relating
to the fuel used in their cars.

to appear before RFU Disciplinary Officer
Following
an incident in last Sunday's Guinness Premiership defeat at London
Wasps, Bristol Rugby's Jason Hobson has been cited to appear before
an RFU Disciplinary Officer in London on March 13th.
Hobson
was involved in an off the ball incident with England international
Phil Vickery midway through the second half.

Having
lost their last two games, Bristol Rugby face London Irish this
Saturday at the Memorial Ground.

DERBY
DAY FOR BRISTOL LADIES HOCKEY
This
Saturday will see Bristol's top two Ladies teams, Clifton Ladies
and Firebrands, cross sticks for the much anticipated local
derby.
Clifton,
currently riding high in first spot in the Slazenger EHL Div1
league, look favourites to win.... but Firebrands will doubtless
have other ideas. They will be doing their utmost to clinch
some much needed points and rise out of the bottom three in
the championship table.
The
venue for this weekend’s game is the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex,
Coombe Dingle, Bristol – Match starts at 13:00.

The Cat
is back for more
Bristol’s
former WBC champion Glenn Catley steps into the ring this evening
with Russian Sergey Kharchenko at the new 2000 seater venue Filton
College WISE Campus.
Kharchenko, who fights out of Spain, is likely to provide Catley
with a stiff test in his second fight since he announced his comeback
with a third round stoppage victory over Hussain Osman in November.

Hendy
unveils new Ford Focus
Rally driver
Steve Hendy, member of Bristol's Tavern Motor Club, is set to
unveil a new car for the 2007 season this weekend at the Tour
of Epynt rally.
|
Hendy
has replaced his Ford Escort WRC with a 2000 model Ford Focus
and has high hopes that the new car will give him the edge against
a tough list of contenders all bidding to lift the rally title.
Tour
of Epynt, the first round of the Legend Fires MSA Asphalt Rally
Championship takes place, as it's name suggests, in and around
Epynt Carmarthenshire.

Athletes at the Norwich Union Grand Prix
Exeter Harrier's
Jo Pavey ran out today hoping to set a new world record in the
two mile race at the Norwich Union Grand Prix held in Birmingham.
Despite a
spirited effort, and with little help from the pacemakers, she
in the had to settle in the end for a new National Record of 9:32.00
for the indoor event.
Bristol's
Ryan Scott was also in action at the BBC televised event, finishing
a worthy 6th overall in the mens 60 metre final.
