13APR09 - BRANDS HATCH

Alastair Fagan had a harsh introduction to the world of British Superbikes on Bank Holiday Monday as the first meeting of 2009 got under way at Brands Hatch.

The Bristol-based rider has moved up from the British Supersport class for this season after being offered a coveted ride with Red Viper Racing. The team run 2009 Honda Fireblades with 1000cc engines built by Chris Mehew. Alastair races in the Cup class for privateers.

A writer for Fast Bikes magazine, Alastair has been riding motorbikes since he was 3, and was racing by the time he was 8. His ambition is to win the Cup class in his first season.

A promising start in race 1 saw Alastair eventually cross his first ever Superbike finish line in a creditable 22nd position overall ... just two places behind his Red Viper team-mate Aaron Zanotti.

In race 2, Alastair again put in a dynamic performance but had problems with his bike in the last third of the race and was unable to finish.
